What comes after the 750?

May 21st, 2008

Well if we wait a bit, we will be seeing the 850 … the Palm Treo 850 that is!  The boys at The Boy Genius Report got some super exclusive pictures of the Palm Treo 850 and I got to tell you, it is slick, very very slick!  I love Palm’s form factor with the 700W and the 750.  By far, the absolute best Pocket PC experience I have ever had.  Now with the 850 coming (and it is rumored to have 400 MHz processor and 100 MB of RAM), it is sure to be a mega hit!

Imagineng, Inc. introduces "Memic List software for Windows Mobile devices". Memic List combines a simplified voice recognition approach with the capabilities of smart phones to expand how people list. The resulting mobile phone utility affords people a new luxury to list when needed and have lists at hand.

Memic List can open your lists and add or review items with voice recognition commands like ‘add item’ or ‘review items’. A small number of voice commands means you’re quickly proficient and recognition results are good. The utility of the software lies in its "flexibility to list in a variety of situations". "Items can be saved as voice recordings inside lists" to offer a mobile alternative to keypad data entry. When adding voice items "the software recognizes the end of speech and automatically trims recordings to reduce file sizes". "Text data entry is available but voice recording items becomes the preferred method". Either text or voice items can be reviewed with voice commands.

Aliph Jawbone Earwear

May 20th, 2008

Here is a new review from iLounge on Aliph’s NEW Jawbone:  The Aliph Jawbone Earwear

jb Aliph’s original Jawbone received one of the most difficult B ratings we ever issued to an accessory. Much hyped and unquestionably impressive from a technology standpoint, the first Jawbone was a wireless Bluetooth headset with breakthrough noise-cancellation abilities, but suffered from two serious issues: an uncomfortable design and a high price tag. Retailer discounting eventually helped solve one of those problems, and now Aliph has taken care of the other one in a brand new version with the same name: Jawbone ($130), known alternately as Jawbone Earwear or Jawbone with Noise Assassin.

Simply put, the new Jawbone is the best Bluetooth headset we’ve yet tested with the iPhone — the first one ever to receive our high recommendation — and only two things stand in the way of it being a complete replacement for every other option we’ve seen.

Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook

May 20th, 2008

I’m sure you have seen over the past month a great contest called 31 Days of The Dragon where 31 sites had a daily contest where users could enter and have the chance to win a Dragon.  Well, if you did not win here is a great look at the laptop (really it should be called a Desktop Replacement) that Steve "fyiguy" Hughes did from BostonPocketPC .  This is truly an extraordinary experience and if you are one of those folks that desire the best of the best then this Desktop Replacement has it all!  I was fortunate to have spent quite a bit of time one day "playing " with the HP Pavilion HDX9200 Notebook PC aka Dragon and I have to tell you, it is definitely on my "short list" for my next PC.

dragon

Steve did a great job on his review giving the experience he had from the beginning to the end.  His conclusion pretty much sums up the potential:

OK besides gaming, movie watching, web browsing and running office applications. This laptop can do a pretty good job as a nice rendering workstation for 3D Studio and Maya with no problems. It also makes a pretty good programmer’s coding computer. I installed Visual Studio 2008 and compiled some code that I know would take a while and it flew through those computations like a hot knife through butter. This is really the fastest laptop I have every used and can be seriously be used for both work and play as true desktop replacement. If you are looking for a desktop replacement with a large screen and need portability the HP HDX Dragon is for you.
